Copilot Readiness Monitor

Welcome to the dForts: Copilot Readiness Monitor user guide. This tool is designed to help SharePoint site owners identify and fix oversharing risks before enabling Microsoft 365 Copilot.

Why is this important? Copilot respects existing permissions. If a user has access to a file they shouldn't (due to "Everyone" groups or loose sharing links), Copilot might surface sensitive information from those files in its responses.
Dashboard Overview Main Dashboard showing Risk Score and scanned items.

Getting Started

The monitor is a SharePoint extension that automatically appears in the top bar of your sites once it has been installed and authorized by your IT Administrator.

Top Bar Icon The monitor is always accessible from your site's top navigation bar.

Running Scans

To analyze your site's exposure, you need to initiate a scan. This process checks all document libraries, folders, and files for overly permissive sharing.

Note: Scans run in your browser. For very large sites (>15,000 files), we recommend contacting your administrator for server-side scanning options.
Scan Progress The monitor analyzing site permissions in real-time.

Understanding Results

Once the scan is complete, you will receive a Risk Score from 0 to 100.

Risk Factors

Folder Heatmap

Visualizing where the risks are concentrated is key to efficient remediation. The Exposure Heatmap shows which folders contain the most risky items.

Step-by-Step Remediation

Fixing a risk is a simple process, whether you do it item-by-item or in bulk:

  1. Identify a file in the Risky Items list and click its action button (e.g., Remediate).
  2. Alternatively, use Clean All Critical Risks to fix multiple items at once.
  3. A confirmation dialog will appear explaining exactly what will happen. Click Confirm.
